Not Forever by Alex Mellanby
We turned into a narrow gap between two walls.
‘Don’t want to disturb anyone in the village.’
If Lester had decided to kill us, then he would have found it easy. No one was going to come out in this rain to check what was happening to mum and me. Not when they’d got a look at us.
Molly’s childhood is a world of secrets and hiding. Her mother’s latest escape is to Devon, where the home they’re offered comes with serious strings attached.
Molly tries to lose herself in Dartmoor’s bleak wilderness, but when things go badly wrong, she is forced to confront the violent, drug-taking world of the adults around her.
She can’t get away, but can she get revenge?…
Reviews for Not forever by Alex Mellanby
“This is a hair raising story of child abuse, as told by the victim. It may be fiction but the author challenges the reader to recognise that this is reality for some children.
The tale that unfolds, while so real and upsetting, also reveals a resilience in Molly, our “heroine”, that is ultimately uplifting. Eloquent beyond her years, Molly takes us beyond her terrible experiences out onto the wilds of Dartmoor. Somewhere her pain is eased, and distant horizons glimpsed that offer hope of a different forever.
If the skill of a writer is to take the reader on an emotional roller coaster, be prepared for one hell of a ride.” – Five star review on Amazon from John Thornicroft
“Given this book as a gift. I have read Alex Mellanby’s TreGarthurs series, bought for my grandchildren. Great series. This is something totally different, still great but a reflection on drugs in society. Not a comfortable read but a book you cannot put down. It made me think of “Cathy Come Home” a 60’s film that had an effect on myself and a lot of people I knew. This book shows the effects of drugs and should be a wake up call to the youth of today. Actions have consequences, just hope it’s NOT FOREVER.” – Five star review on Amazon from Stuart D.
