Fantasy Writing Competition
To honour our late member Steve Hammond, whose writing was greatly admired by many of us, we are running a new fantasy writing competition. It will be known as the Steve Hammond Memorial Competition.
It’s only open to members of Cambridge Writers, so for details on how to join, click here.
To help you in writing your entries, here’s a definition of Fantasy Writing:
A genre of speculative fiction writing involving magical elements, sometimes inspired by mythology or folklore. It differs from science fiction and horror by the fact that scientific or macabre themes are generally absent, or are not the main focus of the writing.
Competition rules:
1) Word limit 1,000 words.
2) Closing date 31st May.
3) Entries must be sent to Siobhan Carew as a Word or pdf file.
4) All entries will be circulated anonymously to all members who may vote on their first, second and third choices.
5) The closing date for voting is 30th June.
6) Prizes will be £50 for the winner, £30 for second place, and £20 for third.
7) Results will be announced at the summer social, to be held on a Saturday in late July (date to be announced later).
8) The first prize entry will be read out at the summer social.
