At this event, the top three stories as voted for by you, the members, will be revealed!
There will be a chance to hear the stories read by their authors, and free refreshments.
If you have entered, we urge you to attend, so you can read out your story if you are among those placed.
A little about the competition: To honour our late member Steve Hammond, whose writing was greatly admired by many of us, we run a fantasy writing competition, the Steve Hammond Memorial Competition.
It’s only open to members of Cambridge Writers, so for details on how to join, click here.
To help you in writing your entries, here’s a definition of Fantasy Writing:
A genre of speculative fiction writing involving magical elements, sometimes inspired by mythology or folklore. It differs from science fiction and horror by the fact that scientific or macabre themes are generally absent, or are not the main focus of the writing.
Competition rules:
1) Word limit 1,000 words.
2) Closing date 31st May. If you’re reading this after that date, I’m afraid you can’t enter, but you can still vote for the winner (if you’re a fully paid up member) and come along to the results night.
3) Entries must be sent to Rachel Levy, the competition secretary, as a Word file.
4) All entries will be circulated anonymously to all members who may vote on their first, second and third choices.
5) The closing date for voting is 30th June.
6) Prizes will be £100 for the winner, £50 for second place, and £30 for third.
